Tyler Cameron: Bad games will happen, these are the 2019-20 Blackhawks
Even though the numbers and eye test will tell you that the Blackhawks were outplayed by the Hurricanes for 40+ minutes on Tuesday, I wasn’t upset by the loss.
To most, the Hawks have just recently graduated from dumpster-fire to bubble playoff team. This is due to their recent play which included a 4-game winning streak that they help up until Tuesday’s loss.
These games are going to happen. That’s what being a bubble team means. You win some… you lose some. |

More from ‘The Hockey News’ on the dumpster fire that is the Toronto Maple Leafs. It’s always the coach that takes the hit. But, more often than not, it’s the front office that is actually responsible.
Now it gets really interesting. One of the fall guys is obviously gone, replaced by longtime Leafs coach-in-waiting Sheldon Keefe. Now we’ll see how well Dubas and Shanahan deal with seats that are growing increasingly ever warm. Because they are the ones who are most responsible for supplying Babcock with the players with whom he has worked. Anyone who has watched this team over the past couple of seasons can plainly see it is a fundamentally flawed roster, one that will never seriously challenge for a Stanley Cup unless it becomes more balanced. A team that was already suspect in its own end got even worse with Dubas’ acquisitions over the summer, so nobody should be surprised when Tyson Barrie gives up the puck and allows a breakaway right down Main Street at a crucial time in the game. Cody Ceci, by all accounts, has come as advertised and it could be argued he has been an anchor on Morgan Rielly. The backup goaltending position has been a complete disaster and has given this team no wiggle room. The Leafs doubled, tripled and quadrupled down on skill and while you simply cannot win anything in the NHL without a core of elite skill, you can’t expect to throw your sticks on the ice and have your skill carry you to victory every game. |

I bet Uncle Lou was trying to talk them out of signing Tavares. Who has the power to get rid of the GM? |

This team really has to work on exiting the zone, with their teammates on their back. This would help them defensively so much. I can't believe inspite of all those turnovers in our own zone not 1 goal scored, Lehner was outstanding.

Back to the Hawks. Don't know if Shaw has been 100% lately, but not impressed with his play this year. Guess I was expecting someone who could put up 40 or so points this year. Possibly he is good in the locker room, but for 3.9M and at his age I would expect more on the ice.
If Hawks are a bubble team come the TDL, I wouldn't be sad if he's traded to a contending team who wants the grit and playoff experience.
Get a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him and open up a roster spot for an Entwistle/Kurashev/Hagel next year. |

He was out with a hip injury today. Supposedly not serious, but not sure how long bothering him. |

Tyler did you read the article in the athletic in reference to the Lightning and how they want to change their game play from skilled to the Carolina/JC system?
Your thoughts if you have. |

yeah the bolts are "struggling" a bit...but they have the hawks number...won 7 strt and in most of those games get outplayed...
my guess lehner plays...he will need combat pay for this one...expect another 40 sog's against...
just don't the hawks can hang with this team: losers 4-1 at least |

Debrincat or Saad for Nylander?
Nylander has been having a much better year. 17 points in 23 games. +4. But what I really like is his contract. 5 years at 7M.
Saad is signed for 2 years at 6M.
Debrincat at 4 years at 6.4M |

Interesting thought, but why would Toronto bite on that (other some glorious cap space) given need for D. Would they take Gus for Nylander? |

I would do Delia, Shaw, Smith for Nylander.
Toronto would get the goalie they need, Smith and Shaw would equalize the money.
Other option is Crow for Nylander +
Again they get the goalie they need and cap space next season. We would get a top 6 winger plus extra in return for the cap space we are helping them with. Picks or prospects. |

Michal Teply got 2 goals in the 3rd last night. Had a ticket for this one but unfortunately wasn't able to attend.

Teply has 22 points in 22 games so far in the WHL. At that rate he might be ready for Rockford next year. |

I agree Murphy should be paired with Keith - they make the best d-pair we have. At least have one fairly good d-pairing.
Forward line combo's were all over the map toward the end of last blog. I think Cat-Strome-Kane should stay together - everything else is up for debate. I would like to see Dach move up in the lineup and also get some PP time. Put the pieces together and change as needed. |

Leafs need forwards harder to play against, and defensemen who can defend, plus a back up goalie.
Saad, Shaw & Delia for Nylander ++
Maybe add Gilbert if he’s not going to be one of the eventual 6 defensemen. |

Keith - Murphy
De Haan - Seabrook
It’s a better 4 than they’ve had in a few years. I’m not crazy about Maatta - Gustafsson, but it doesn’t look like any of the kids will be ready this season. |
